Frequently Asked Questions

After my pool has been replastered, do I need to brush it? If so, for how long, and what is the reason and process for brushing?
After your pool has been replastered, we recommend brushing the pool for two weeks, twice a day if possible.
The purpose of brushing is to push the plaster residue towards the main drains to keep it from settling on the new plaster and clear the water as quickly as possible. The process is to start at the entry steps, brushing towards the main drains. It is important to brush the entire pool, including the walls.
What is the process for replastering a pool?
The first step is to drain, stabilize and acid wash the pool. Next, we chip around the fittings and light niches as well as any hollow areas of plaster that need to be removed. We then apply a resin-based Bond Kote, which is much like taking the pool back to gunite in order for the new plaster to adhere. This part of the process takes one day.
The second day, we apply the plaster and begin filling the pool. This process is usually started very early in the morning and completed in the afternoon. We put the hose in the pool and begin filling.
What is the benefit of choosing an upgraded plaster?
There are several benefits when choosing an upgraded plaster, both functional and aesthetic. Any of the upgraded products come with a 10-year manufacturer warranty. They are more resilient to staining or discoloration, not to mention that they allow you to achieve many different effects in water color. Would you like your pool to look like the Caribbean Sea or the Pacific Ocean? Maybe you like a sandy beach effect or a natural lagoon-type look.
Is it true that correct chemistry can add to the longevity of my new plaster?
Chemistry is crucial to maintaining the plaster. Filtration and proper chemistry are imperative to the longevity of plaster, whether it is white plaster or an upgraded plaster. We recommend taking a water sample to your local pool supply company once a week and having the chemistry tested, especially in the heat of the summer. As the water has natural evaporation, there is also loss of chemicals when refilling the pool due to evaporation.
If I want to do a remodel – for instance, plaster, tile and coping – how long does this process take?
Depending on how extensive the remodel is, in most cases it will take no more than a week from start to finish.
Is it true that the upgraded plaster finishes such as quartz or pebble are rough surfaces?
It is a misconception that quartz or pebble surfaces are rough surfaces. If the application is done properly, they are not rough.
How long does it take to replaster a pool?
If you are doing just a replaster for pool only or pool and spa, the process generally takes two days.
How long do I need to leave my automatic pool cleaner out of my pool after it has been re-plastered?
We recommend a minimum of two weeks.
Do I have choices on different types of plaster?
Yes, there are many different options. You can choose a quartz finish, a pebble finish or a polished marble Hydrazzo finish.
